Accepted vaccine types and validity

These are the categories in the 2026 requirement, checked on 3 September. A brand name alone does not establish that a product meets them. Ask the vaccinating professional to identify the type and record it clearly; do not select or repeat a vaccine solely from an online description.

Meningococcal certificate: which countries are explicitly listed?

Meningococcal vaccination covering ACWY is required for Umrah regardless of origin. Presenting the certificate is a separate provision: section 1.1 of the Saudi Umrah 1447H (2026) document explicitly requires it for individuals from the following 26 countries.

Benin; Burkina Faso; Burundi; Cameroon; Central African Republic; Chad; Côte d’Ivoire; Democratic Republic of the Congo; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Gambia; Ghana; Guinea; Guinea-Bissau; Kenya; Mali; Mauritania; Niger; Nigeria; Rwanda; Senegal; South Sudan; Sudan; Tanzania; Togo; Uganda.

France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Morocco and Tunisia are not in this list. This paragraph therefore does not explicitly impose the same certificate-presentation requirement on them. However, it is not a blanket exemption from evidence checks: France Diplomatie says pilgrims must be able to present proof, including when using a tourist visa for Umrah. Carry your record and confirm the instructions applicable to your journey with the authorities and carrier. Do not determine the requirement from nationality alone. This list concerns the meningococcal certificate for Umrah; it does not describe Hajj rules or rules for other vaccines.

Calculate from arrival, not from leaving home

The minimum interval is measured against arrival in Saudi Arabia. For example, a vaccination on 15 November is too recent for arrival on 20 November. Allow more than the minimum so an earlier flight or an appointment delay does not leave you outside the required interval.

An older record may still be usable if the vaccine type and date meet the stated window. The document says that when the type is not specified, validity is treated as three years. Ask the provider to clarify an incomplete record rather than guessing the formulation or changing the certificate yourself.

Check that the record can be understood abroad

The official document specifically asks for the vaccine name and administration date. As a practical check, make sure the record can be linked to the traveller: correct identity details, identifiable product and type, date, and the clinic’s appropriate validation. A batch number and other clinical record details are useful where provided.

Ask the issuing clinic about an internationally understandable format or language when needed. Keep the original or official record, a readable paper backup and protected offline access. Do not rely only on a home-country health app that may need an internet connection or a verification message while abroad.

Other requirements may apply to your profile

The same 2026 document includes country-dependent polio and yellow-fever requirements and COVID-19 evidence for specified groups, including people over 65, pregnant women and several chronic-disease or immunodeficiency categories. The exact accepted evidence and lists need checking in the full current document.

Give the clinician your complete itinerary and relevant travel history, not merely your passport nationality. Do not assume a domestic routine meningitis vaccination covered the required serogroups. This article explains travel requirements; it does not assess your medical suitability or prescribe a vaccine for you.

Visa approval does not remove health checks

Not being asked for a certificate during the visa application does not cancel a separate health requirement. The carrier and border authorities may request relevant records during travel. Confirm your route’s document checks in advance rather than expecting an airport appointment to resolve missing preparation.

Consult several weeks before travel

Bring the passport, previous vaccination records, medication list, medical history and intended Saudi arrival date to a qualified travel-health appointment. Allow extra time for children, pregnancy, chronic conditions, uncertain records or other vaccines required by the itinerary.

If there may be a contraindication, ask the clinician and relevant authorities about the appropriate course. A medical exemption does not automatically guarantee boarding or admission. Recheck the Ministry’s latest Umrah document before departure: requirements can change between the date an article is written and the travel date.
