Official reference points for women’s entrances

The official Alharamain FAQ identifies 25, 29 and 41 among women’s entrances. It also describes women’s prayer areas to the west via 13 and 17D, and to the north via 23–31B. Its displayed update is dated 5 August 2025.

Use these as preparation references, not a promise that a particular gate will serve the same flow at your arrival time. Follow signs, barriers and female staff directing visitors. Check the current prayer-area access with the hotel and on site rather than relying on a single gate number in an older article.

Choose the side before choosing the room

Ask the hotel for the exact street and mosque entrance normally reached from it. “Three minutes from the mosque” is incomplete. Consider your group:

• A woman travelling alone: a simple route to the relevant women’s prayer area, suitable reception hours and a clear return after dark.
• A couple: an easy place to separate and meet again.
• A family: few difficult crossings and somewhere to wait without blocking people.
• A wheelchair user: continuous step-free access, suitable kerbs and lifts.
• A short stay: genuinely convenient access to reduce time spent going back and forth.

A northern or western hotel may suit particular women’s areas, while another side may work better for other needs. There is no universally best side; assess the actual property and current route.

Measure the full journey

Start at the real hotel entrance, then measure to the gate you will use. Add lift waits, crossings, diversions around barriers and the walk through the courtyards, with time before the prayer starts.

Ask for a recent route video, ideally showing typical prayer-time conditions. It may reveal a rear entrance, stairs, a shopping passage or a crossing missing from the map.

Test both directions early in the stay. A cooler morning or evening may make walking easier, but lighting, crowding and personal fatigue still matter. Do not assume that a familiar walking distance at home has the same practical effect here.

Arrange family and couple meeting points

Before your first visit, choose an exact meeting point outside the flow of people, near a clear gate number or fixed landmark. “Outside the mosque” or “under the umbrellas” is too vague.

Each responsible traveller should have the hotel name and address in Arabic and English, reception number and a protected offline route. Keep room details private. Do not make the entire group dependent on one phone.

Walk the intended return route in daylight where possible and identify an alternative if an entrance is unavailable. The goal is to know the relevant nearby accesses and street, not memorise every gate.

Rawdah: proximity does not grant entry

A nearby hotel gives no additional entitlement to enter the Rawdah. Use the official Nusuk permit process, check the allocated time and beneficiary, and follow the current meeting-point instructions. The Ministry’s service page lists both the app and website; available sign-in options can depend on your profile.

Check the hotel services you will use

Ask about:

• Lift availability around fajr and isha.
• Breakfast times and your daily plans.
• Luggage storage after checkout.
• Any wheelchair or personal assistance offered.
• Reception’s ability to explain current access routes.
• The legal taxi pickup point and walk with bags.

For a longer stay, a quieter property farther away may work if its transport is genuinely useful. Verify the current Madinah Bus route or hotel service rather than assuming that a nearby bus stop provides the journey you need.

Send one precise request before paying

Ask: “Please mark the actual hotel entrance and walking route to the nearest suitable women’s prayer entrance on a map. Are there any steps, barriers or difficult crossings, and how does the route work before and after prayer?” Retain the response.

Compare recent factual reviews about lifts, access and building work. A panoramic photograph does not show the ground-floor route.

If Madinah is your first stop, coordinate check-in, baggage storage and the later journey to Makkah. Long-haul arrival dates, a morning checkout and an evening train can affect how useful a room booking really is.
